Building a Web page that displays well on all browsers isn't easy. To make matters worse, sometimes you've done everything right, and your page still doesn't display correctly under one specific browser

The first step to solving browser compatibility problems is to ...

OCIBR Announcement: Renewal Notices : Beware of scam

Posted by: MarkCermak on Friday, August 01, 2008 - 04:25 AM 68 Reads
On the net

Please be careful when receiving "renewal" notices that come in the form of a letter sent through regular mail, an email and/or a telephone call requesting you to renew. Some of our customers that have acted on these "renewal" notices have found that they have ended up paying for a service they did not want, from a company they did not choose to deal with, and have lost essential services from Andrechelle.com.

These "renewal" notices are sent by our competitors who monitor the publicly accessible WHOIS database and obtain our customers' contact information through it. These are not renewal notices. A customer is required to transfer their domain name(s) to another company when they did not intend to. If you do "renew" your domain with them, your registration will be transferred to another company, and your name servers (the record which controls who provides service for your domain name) will be changed so that you are no longer using Andrechelle's services.

You can also avoid this issue altogether by renewing early or adding additional years to your account.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

OCIBR Announcement: SummerFest X July 24-26 2008

Posted by: MarkCermak on Monday, July 28, 2008 - 10:15 AM 117 Reads
News
The tenth annual SummerFest was held July 24-26 in Muskegon MI with some events in Grand Rapids MI. A full schedule of activities kept everyone busy but not rushed. Each year is better than the last and this year was certainly no exception.

Paul Lucas of ChemMax taught a CCT course at a very special SummerFest rate for attendees.

Two days at Nathan Koets rug Plant (Advanced Restoration) for in depth, hands on rug cleaning demonstrations, tips and training.

An impressive tour of Scott Group Custom Carpet Mill where they make custom wool, silk, and cashmere carpets and rugs for the airline and marine industries as well as residential and commercial carpets and rugs. Following the custom carpets from design to the art of hand tufting, to completion was an incredible experience, not easily put into words.

Informative presentations by Shaw’s Cary Mitchell on encapsulation cleaning, Ruth Travis on the IICRC, and Paul Lucas on the history of soap / detergent were also highlights of this years event.

The annual Friday night banquet was packed. Everyone went home with at least one door prize, as well as a roll of Sticky Tabs, a gallon of VacAway and a SummerFest shirt. Grand prize was a 14” Greenhorn wand, winner George Farnworth of Quality Carpet Care Mentor OH.

This year’s winners of SummerFest awards for participation and dedication to bettering the industry and helping make SummerFest a success are:

2008 Man of the Year – K. Mark Kling.

2008 Woman of the Year – Ruth Travis.

Saturday at DSC everyone enjoyed the friendly competition for the 2008 SpotMaster Championship title. This year’s SpotMaster Champions are Jerry Szpak (Commercial Carpet Care Redford MI) and Jerry McMahon (Hawkeye Carpet Care Fort Dodge IA).
Jerry Szpak also the lucky winner of the Rug Badger raffle to help an orphanage in India.

After the tour of DSC Laboratories to see how cleaning products are designed and blended and a spectacular authentic Polish food lunch buffet, DSC shuttled all the attendees to the marina and took everyone sailing.

All three days had equipment, products and methods on display with time for in depth, hands on training.

Great speakers, presentations and tours, the (no suit and tie) atmosphere was relaxed and fun.

Special thanks go out to Mark and Andrechelle Cermak and the Summerfest Committee who put this awesome event together, Scott's Group, Paul Lucas, Nathan and the Koets' family, and Mark and the Kling family for your hospitality and generosity. Thanks also to all who participated and made this event so terrific.

Hope to see you all next year!

MARKeting: Do Pay Per Click Campaigns Influence Organic Search Results?

Posted by: MarkCermak on Monday, May 21, 2007 - 09:50 AM 683 Reads
On the net
There is a theory that has been circling for years that Sponsored Ads impact your SEO efforts. Some people believe that Google or Yahoo! pay-per-click help website owners achieve higher organic rankings.

To go direct to the source, a Google user has asked whether or not this is the case by posting a question on Google groups, a help forum for users of Google. The response from Google was:

MARKeting: Improve Search Ranking with CONTENT

Posted by: MarkCermak on Sunday, May 20, 2007 - 11:35 AM 632 Reads
On the net
One of the most important on-page SEO factors is often forgotten by many website owners - content. I like the old saying, "content is king" because it still plays a huge part in determining how websites rank in search engines. Generally, the more relevant content you can provide the better.

Other factors do play a part, such as quality, relevance and optimizing your content, but generally more is better. Why? Because search engine spiders look at the words on your website to assess its topic, content and relationship with other pages. The more content you provide the more text the search engine spider has to read and the more valuable your website will be to search engines and visitors. So here are 5 tips to keep in mind when creating search friendly content:

MARKeting: Yahoo updates website ranking algorythm

On the net
The Yahoo! Search Blog announced they have completed an update to their algorithm last week. The update is set to effect how their algorithm ranks web pages and determines which sites are included in the search index.

From the Yahoo! Search blog:

"We rolled out some changes to our index and ranking algorithm last night. So, as you know, throughout this process you may see some changes in ranking as well as some shuffling of the pages included in the index. This update should be complete very soon."

Index updates are important for major search engines in order to combat spam and reward webmasters who

MARKeting: Dont Spam Google - Volkswagon Caught

The Google Enterprise blog recently featured the Volkswagon website for using new Google features to power a search box on their website. At the time, Google was unaware the major car manufacturer was actually search spamming, but as Danny Sullivan revealed, the website was using hidden text.

Below is the hidden text as reported by Search Engine Land:

MARKeting: Making Search Engines Work For Your Website

Posted by: MarkCermak on Sunday, January 21, 2007 - 07:35 AM 1282 Reads
On the net
Your website is only as good as it is findable. A recent study showed that nearly 90% of Internet users use search engines to locate the web pages they are looking for. 90%! MANY sites are built with no regard for "Findability" at all - some are basically invisible to search engines.

Websites that are not finely tuned to be found by the big search engines -- Google, MSN Search and Yahoo -- won't be found by potential customers either, turning what should be a valuable marketing tool into a waste of time.

Looking for a cost effective way to get new customers?

Look no further than ....

MARKeting: How to Get Your Company Online Now!

Posted by: MarkCermak on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 01:44 PM 1208 Reads
On the net
I've heard many small-business owners say they think they should get a website. They're not quite sure what they need to do, but they know they should have one.

They're right! The Internet is recognized as one of the most cost effective forms of advertising available - soon every business will appear online in some form, and if your competitors get there first, then you could be missing out on potentially valuable customers.

Compared to the more traditional advertising mediums, the Internet has potential circulation figures/coverage area that can't be matched - and all at a fraction of the cost of a simple series of advertizements in the local paper - let alone any sustained marketing campaign!

To get your own company online, you need the following: ....
